The Concept | Fair and Affordable Racing. Xcel believes in placing the racing back into the driver's hands instead of the owner's pocketbook. Well designed cars using smart technical rules makes the 600 Modified Series is one the most competitive and affordable racing divisions in the country. A turn-key race car, ready to race, only costs $9,000. The cars weight is 900lbs. (with driver) and feature 110hp engines. Shock rules, hard compound tires and lack of airfoils make it a challenge to "hook" the cars up. The engines are sealed from Xcel eliminating the temptation to buy horsepower. This coupled with frequent technical inspections creates a 'fair' racing environment.
The Series | Coming to a track near you. The Series travels to tracks in New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The 600 Mods race in front of modified crowds as a supporting show at places like Penn Can, Five Mile Point, Thunder Mountain Speedway, and Bridgeport just to name a few. The 600 Mods also return to many driver's micro racing roots by running at Linda's, Clyde Martin Memorial and Trailways Speedways. Each show offers a sizable purse that is spread throughout the finishing order. Everybody that makes the feature event gets paid as well as non-qualifiers.
At the end of the year, a Series champion is crowned for both the 600 modified drivers. Xcel has secured individual event sponsors as well as point fund and product contributions that provide extra incentives to the teams that support the division.
The Cars | Small Design, Big Power The 600 Modifieds are designed based upon technology used in the 270cc and 600cc micro-sprint cars. Like the micro-sprints, the 600 Mods are chain driven using the same left side gear/sprocket idea, along with splined rear axles, tubular front axle, coil-over suspension, rack and pinion steering, and 10" wheels. That's where the similarity ends. The 600 Modifieds sport an aluminum body crafted after the Northeast Big Block and Small Block Modifieds.
