If you can go to a car dealer and test drive the new car why not do the same with a race car. After a one year absence, series owner Doug Borger is announcing the return of the popular rental car program. “After so many phone calls this summer and even now bringing back the rental just seemed to be the perfect answer, you can watch videos and look at pics but until you’ve strapped in how are you really going to know. People want to know what they are buying and now they can.” added Borger, “If you buy a new car within a year of your rental date you get a $100.00 off the new car.
Xcel Chassis provides a race ready competitive car for the night’s events. All the driver needs is the required safety gear along with the need to win. The rental car has posted a few wins over the years so you know you’re getting into a car that has just as much chance to win as the next guy. The cost for a night of racing is only $350.00 so call 610-681-2689 to reserve your day. The rental car is available for all tour shows along with Thunder Mountain, Lindas and Kutztown dates. 10.03.11 | NICK MADY HAS TURNAROUND YEAR TO SCORE 2011 XCEL CHASSIS 600 MODIFIED CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE
Being your own worst enemy is never easy to overcome since the finger pointing leads directly back to you but that’s what Nick Mady had to do to earn his first championship in the Xcel Chassis 600 Modified Series he has run the last 8 seasons. Pretty much every year has seen it slip away with a year ending suspension in 2010 that gave Mady only two choices, look deep and fix it or walk away from racing. No doubt it was the hardest thing he has done but in the end the racing did a total 360 even with some road blocks that could have derailed his championship run. The 2011 season proved to be the personal best for Nick and the family owned #77x as he stacked up an impressive record of 1 win, 11 top 5’s and accumulated 5 heats race wins over a 15 race season.
Mady Motorsports started with 1 car with Nick and his brother Brian having to share a ride along with a modified boat trailer and a Dodge Caravan. Nick, Brian, Cortney and Joanne Mady had lain the groundwork to what was to become a three car team, owner championship, numerous wins, top 5 finishes and the elusive driver champion along with a better tow package.
“What happened last year opened my eyes to a lot of things. My actions not only reflected myself but my whole team. Once I stepped back and looked at the whole picture, I sure in hell didn’t like what I saw and right then and there made the full commitment to reverse what was going on”, stated Nick in our sit down interview, “I sat Brian, Cort, Arielle and my mom down over the winter and promised to do what I had to do and not let them or me down.”
No one knew what lie ahead but the speed bump in July sent the Mady Motorsports team and Nick into a different mode. Brian was forced to sit out the rest of the season for medical reasons but what made it harder was the fact that Brian was second in points to Nick and kept closing the gap. Only a racer would understand how Brian felt so Nick had decided to run his brothers number and paint scheme for the remainder of the year. “ I wanted Brian to know that even if he wasn’t on the track he would still be racing so that’s why I ran the #2x the rest of the year and the extra boost of confidence having Brian cheer me on made it all the more important.
The month of September brought about a change no one would or could expect as Brian had turned critical and was diagnosed with Lymphoma. “We had a race scheduled for that weekend and I told mom and Cort I wasn’t gonna race, I couldn’t imagine Brian not being there. I have to thank Buck Dunning, John Bartholomew and George Loux for picking up the phone and keeping me in the right direction cause Brian told me if I hadn’t raced he would’ve been really pissed off and that’s the last thing you want to do to Big Daddy.” smiled Nick, “Brian gained enough strength to come home and was the first one to meet me on our last points night and give me the bear hug. That’s when the whole year came to a close because not only did I have my brother back but I am the Champion of the 2011 season. I need to thank Doug Borger, Hoosier, all the drivers and owners, fans, Buck, DeAnn and most important my family cause it gets no better than this.”
Cody Coons, driver of the Big Creek Concrete #82, gave it his all trying to overcome the point deficit but looked to save his second place finish at Lindas speedway on the final points night. “ Lindas is not my best track but I felt confident we could keep second by the nights end.” A strong finish topped off with a record of 2 wins, 3 top 5’s and 3 top 10’s brought home a second place for the Coons racing family.
Alec Bartholomew driving the AJB Plumbing sponsored #38 had a break out year. Sitting in the top three for most of the season put a lot of weight on a young guns shoulder but he carried it well. A career first win, 3 top 5’s , 5 top 10’s earned Alec third in points. This not only earned him respect from a lot of drivers but he is the 2011 Rookie of the Year. Alec is the highest finishing rookie in the points since the start of the series.
As the saying goes “You only get better with age” defines the season Joe “Geezer” Fanelli had in the Dons Automotive #22 machine. 2 wins in one weekend, 2 top 5’s and 6 top 10’s kept Joe busy all year. Joe does a lot of advertising for his sponsors thru out the year and writes his weekly Geezer Gazette distributed thru email. He also took the lead role in establishing the “Dollars for Big Daddy” campaign to help Brian Mady and his family thru the tough times ahead with his cancer treatments. You can check out all the updates on his webpage www.22racing.com and get with Geezer nation.
Aaron Bowes ran a limited schedule but with 6 top 5’s and 3 top 10’s garnered him a top five for the 2011 season. Aaron has enrolled in Shippensburg College and is not sure what the 2012 season will hold for him.
As mentioned before Brian Mady had to sit out mid way thru the season due to medical reasons. His strong early performance kept him sixth in points and looks forward to the time he can climb back in the seat and start the Big Daddy Comeback Tour. “ Cortney and I can’t thank everybody enough for the support shown to me and my entire family. This is what racing does to bring friends and family together and I wouldn’t want it any other way. Joe stepping up like he did makes me proud to call him my friend.”
Ryan Higgs, Richie Hitzler, Chris Stockham and Cory Coons would round out your top ten for the 2011 season. The Xcel Chassis 600 modified banquet will be held Dec. 3rd at the Polk Township Firehouse where Nick Mady will be handed his champion awards along with other awards to be announced and handed out.
Doug Borger, series owner/promoter, talked about the 2011 season and how he is starting to make plans for the 2012 season. “ Before you know it the new season will be here. I have already had vocal commitments from several tracks and I am just waiting to announce dates. I want to thank the tracks that hosted the series and their help for extras we might have added along the way. New tracks for next year have been added along with returning tracks adding a few more big races for the drivers. I plan to announce some changes at our fall meeting, which is on Oct. 30. Noontime, at the Polk Firehouse. These changes will expand the series and only can make it better as we continue to grow. This season we had some challenges and overcame them still intact. Nick made a complete turn around and has set the bar for drivers following in his footsteps from the 2010 season. No one can say it can’t be done cause he’s the proof it can. Alec set the bar high also with rookie of the year contenders for the 2012 season with the year he had. The caliper of drivers gets better and the speeds get faster. I know I speak for everyone when I say “Lookout 2012”. I plan on keeping everybody updated thru the website www.xcelchassis.com and on our forum board linked to the website thru the winter months. I am also pleased to announce Kevin Shoemaker as the official photographer for the 600 modifieds. Kevin owns Focus on This Photography and you will be able to see the pics right at the track and usually have them the next week. Of course special orders will take longer but Kevin will do a fine job and is a great asset to the series. You can reach Kevin at 484-366-9987 or see him at the last remaining races for this year. Look for the Xcel Chassis booth over the off season at racing shows and see why this is the most economical racing series your gonna find anywhere.”
09.30.11 | XCEL CHASSIS ANNOUNCES NEW INTERNET POLICIES
Going back to the basics and a time when things were settled face to face and not thru channels has come to the Xcel Chassis 600 series. Doug Borger, series owner, sat down and had an open discussion with his fellow drivers. Anyone involved with the series was invited to talk openly with their opinions and concerns with out having to worry about be bashed for voicing the opinion. After much discussion plans were put into place and a decision was made. Doug explained his decision and why that Sunday afternoon, “ We are now shifting all news releases, schedules, forms, and updates to an in house system that will allow the public and anyone directly associated with the series an outlet to express their opinions and not be bashed for it. Most forum boards and web sites don’t hold accountable the users for what they chose to put in print. As an example you can post anything you want on Facebook, whether it be true or not, and not see consequences for those words. I want to change that and the first step is to bring everything back in house. “explained Doug, “Starting immediately a rule has been implemented as follows: Any and all actions by person or persons ruled detrimental to the series, officials, drivers and owners will receive a $75.00 fine or higher along with possible suspensions and/or will possibly receive a life time ban.
“I strongly believe we have got to start being held accountable for our actions not only with words but with words in print because what you write on the internet is there forever. You can sign up for the forum board thru my website xcelchassis.com and you scroll down and the link will be on the left. You are required to sign in with your name along with a display name if you chose. I will be deleting our group page on face book within the next week. My phone number is 610-681-2689 and is always open so feel free to call and I can discuss it further.”
09.24.11 | “SHOWTIME” JUSTIN SCRADEN SETS FAST TIME - TAKES FIRST CAREER WIN IN BILL HESS MEMORIAL @ LINDAS SPEEDWAY
Saturday Sept. 24th proved to be the day for Justin Schraden besting 37 Xcel Chassis 600 mods to take home the big money and his first career win. Tonight was a night to remember Bill Hess and all the wonderful memories his photos shared thru out his career and the memories made by Justin would always be etched in photos and memories. Once a year the big race calls for a different format than the weekly program and is always a big hit. Time trials for the 600 mod tour division set up starting positions for the heats. A total of 4 heats and two B-Mains would set the field of 24 starters.
Emmaus, Pa native Justin Schraden showed the spectators how he got the name “Showtime” since he would be the second qualifier to hit the track and set the time to beat with a 14.21 and with 35 cars lined up to knock him out of the top spot would be more nerve racking than the 2 laps he just ran. Dan Jones, driver of the #99, would come close with a difference of only 3 one hundredths of a second followed by George Loux with a 14.28.
Justin would continue his winning ways taking the first heat with wins followed by Alec Bartholomew, Eric Whitby, George Loux and Kasey Ernst. Ryan Suchon and Jeromy Guistwite took the checkered flags for their respective B-Mains.
Tire and fuel conservation were definitely on the minds of 24 drivers has the first 25 laps were caution free and a battle for the top spot waged on. Alec Bartholomew showed the nose under Schraden’s car on the last 20 laps but couldn’t make the pass coming out of turn 4. The first caution after the fuel only stop would change the face and tempo of the race in one second. Alec had just taken the lead from Justin and as they were coming out of two only to have two cars get together and with nowhere to go collecting the #38 of Bartholomew and ending his night. The restart would prove interesting as the step father of Justin, Eric Whitby, and Ryan Higgs were coming up strong and with the yellow put them right where they needed to be. Last year’s winner, Ryan Higgs, looked to be the first repeat winner but knew it would be a tough battle getting past Whitby to outrun Justin. Just as Eric held his own so did his son as Justin took his first ever checkered flag.
“I never expected to be here in victory lane and to have Eric behind me to see it all just blows my mind. You always think about that first win and when it’s gonna happen just to get the monkey off your back”, as Justin talked between handshakes, ‘I can’t thank my mom and Eric for not only supporting the racing but me along with it. My girlfriend Nichole and the whole crew put a lot of effort into our program and to finish one and two gets no better than this. I need to give a big shout out to Action Party Rentals and Jon Horn and his family for sponsoring tonight so I can bring home a $1000 paycheck. God, I can’t wait for next year!”
Joe “Geezer” Fanelli was on two missions tonight. One of course was to bring home the big check but also bring big dollars to the campaign “Dollars for Big Daddy”. Joe has taken the lead role in helping out fellow competitor and friend Brian Mady. Brian was recently diagnosed with Lymphoma and with medical bills quickly piling up and a two year old daughter, Hayley along with his wife Cortney helping him fight his battle, Joe looked and continues to look for ways to help out his “racing” family. A helmet drive was put into play during intermission and with outside donations tonight’s total was over $700. Joe will continue to “Drive” up the donations has he has pledged all the winnings from his popular #22 Dons Automotive power plant during September and October to the Mady Family. “In times like this, you realize the support and friendships you gain during 7 years of racing and what Joe is doing for my family goes beyond being a friend but a family member. I couldn’t be any prouder if he was my son.” as Brian laughed looking over at the Geezer.
As of this writing the official points for the 2011 season have not been finalized so look for a press release this week on the 2011 season round up.

06.25.11 | Dise injured at LANCO
photo courtesy of Shred Racing On behalf of everyone in the 600 Modified Series and at Xcel Chassis, our heartfelt thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery go out to Lester Dise. Les was injured at LANCO Speedway on Saturday, June 25th during the feature event. Contact with another race car initiated a fuel fire which caused burns to over 50% of his body. Les is currently at the Lehigh Valley Hospital’s Burn Care and Recovery Center. More information on his condition will follow. For more details, please click on the link to see Barry Angstadt’s press release from LANCO Speedway. What happened Saturday evening reminds us of how dangerous our sport can be. In the wake of incidents, we strive to come out of it better than before. There’s always room for improvements; from the teams, the manufacturers and the tracks themselves. We hope that everyone takes this time to reflect on what’s within their control. For drivers, it can’t be stated enough how important double and triple layer suits are to your safety. In addition, we strongly encourage wearing full length Nomex underwear along with balaclavas. Your shoes and gloves take a beating throughout the season and should be replaced often. In addition, drivers should continually practice getting out of the race car. Simulating a stressful environment while practicing extraction will go along way to preparing you for such an incident. If you have practiced getting out often enough to the point that it’s an automatic response you stand a much better chance of limiting your time in a fire. Also remember to keep your visor down. Owners of cars pre-2011, if you haven’t modified your fuel system wiring now’s the time to do so. Over the winter, Xcel Chassis offered to change your wiring to use the fuel relay in the wiring harness free of charge. What this will do is shut the fuel pump off the moment the crank sensor is no longer sending a signal (spinning). Xcel Chassis is extending this invitation and encourages everyone to do this - NOW. Cars sold in 2011 already have this feature supplied with the wiring harness. In addition, check your fuel lines for their condition. Loose or cracked fittings need replaced. If you’re not running a fuel line purpose built for auto racing, change them often. Xcel Chassis is also developing a quick release system for the roof latches used on the 600 Modifieds. As soon as a system is ready to go, we will announce it to the teams. We stress that all tracks should look at their safety and response procedures so that almost any incident can be quickly and successful dealt with. There are lessons from any incident that tracks can take to review their crash response procedures, equipment and personnel training. That is a continuous process which many local tracks take very seriously. As more updates become available, we will post them to the racing community. Doug Borger 600 Modified Series Xcel Chassis

Tyler Bartik finished second with Chris Stockham third, Jeromy Guistwite fourth and Rodney Adams fifth. Rounding out the top ten were Ryan Kunkle, Mike Burrows, Matt Carman, Ryan Higgs and Andy Ressler. Heat race winners were Tyler Bartik, Ryan Higgs, Jeromy Guistwite and Chris Stockham. Stockham drew the invert two pill to determine the feature race starting line up. Corry Roth and Andy Bessler won the Consolation races.

Chassis ups ante on 2011 600 Modifieds Series Tour
“The series has expanded so much for the 2011 season so to be able
to add incentives for teams running the tour series this year is a
sweet deal”, explained series owner and promoter Doug Borger, “Three
tracks signed on over the winter. Lindas Speedway will run the 600
