10.20.07 | Stockham Scores Monster Win at TOTH’s Halloween Party.
The 600
Modified Series closed out their season with a features only
appearance at the Thunder On the Hill's Halloween Party run at
Grandview Speedway. Twenty-five Monster Modifieds signed in for
action. The field was set by driver points with the top ten
inverted. This placed Joe Fanelli on the pole as he led the field to
the green flag and then led the opening lap. With 1 lap in the
books, JJ Newman running second got lose off of turn four. Chuck
Miller checked up as Chris Stockham got into Miller, spinning him.
Nick Mady then collected Miller as a multi-car melee ensued on the
front stretch. On the restart, Fanelli again paced the field and
jumped out to a ten car length lead over Kyle Gardner. Laps began to
clip off as Chris Stockham moved under Gardner for second. Stockham
then set his sights on Fanelli who began to experience engine
trouble. On lap eleven, Stockham showed a nose under Fanelli getting
into turn three and they drag raced down the front stretch. Stockham
made the move stick as Gardner quickly followed suit. Fanelli, down
a cylinder, began to fade to the back. Gardner stalked Stockham
waiting for a bobble. On lap sixteen Mike Keppler moved into third
as Doug Manmiller followed. On lap nineteen, Matt Groover and Junior
Lebowski got together in turn one. Stockham continued to lead as the
top five was now set with Gardner, Keppler, Manamiller and Jon
Higley. With two laps to go, Nathan Dibble broke a panhard bar
sending him into the outside wall as Mark Shaeffer clipped him
sending Dibble on his roof. After the red flag cleanup was complete
the stage was set for a green-white-checker finish. Stockham was up
for the challenge as he led the remaining two laps holding off
former Grandview feature winner Gardner and 2007 Driver/Owner
champion Keppler, 358 Modified hotshoe Manmiller and Bridgeport
Speedway Modified driver Higley. After the feature. Stockham
conceded that he was just fighting a tight race car, and that the
caution flags and red flag helped him hang on.
