06.06.08 | Mady scores 4th of Year
at Big D
Starting off
the night would be the #37 of Ryan Suchon on the pole for the first
heat. By lap #3 the #61 of Mark Schaffer had taken the top spot.
Mike Keppler, driver of the 35k, started last in the heat and had
garnered second by lap # 5 with Tyler Bartik crossing the line in
3rd.
Brian Mady #2
and the 4jr of Butch Getz would lead the field for the second heat
race. Mady would have the lead until lap #4 putting Getz in clean
air. On lap # 6, Nick Mady would take the second position from Brian
Mady and would finish in that order.
Dillon Stein,
driver of the 2s, and the G1 of Kyle Gardner would battle for 6 laps
only to have the #15 of Dave Baldwin jr. break into 2nd position by
lap # 6. Stein would take the 3rd heat race win.
Mike Pychinka
would have his hands full for the consi. 20 cars lined up looking
for a qualifying position. Only the top 9 would make the feature and
end the night of the remaining cars. Pychinka would lead all 8 laps
followed by the #82 of Cody Coons. Amanda Spotts, driving for the
#13 of Jon Landis, would take the fourth spot behind the #56 of
Bobby Scherff.
Mark Scaffer,
former legend driver, and Butch Getz would lead the field of 24 cars
to the green flag for the 20 lap feature. The caution would fly on
lap # 7 for the #44 of Chris Stockham taking the car over the
backstretch. On the restart Getz slid under Scaffer in turn one to
take the lead. Dillon Stein #2s would be put back two spots for
hitting the cone on the restart and the G1 of Kyle Gardner would be
sent to the rear for rough riding for the next caution. This would
put Nick Mady, #77x in contention for the win. The yellow would fly
again on lap #17 but by this time Getz had a sizeable lead and Mady
wondered if he could hold onto second as Keppler was on his bumper.
This would set up a great three way battle for the next three laps.
Mady jumped under Getz in turn #3 with Keppler looking to follow but
Getz had enough time to hold Keppler at bay. With Getz and Keppler
doing battle for the 2nd position this would give Nick Mady’s
sponsored Moyers Grove Campground his first victory at Big Diamond
speedway. In his victory lane interview with Pete Knappenberger he
stated, “This is mine and my brother Brian’s toughest track we run
and to get a win and a top five makes it worth all the garage time
we put in. Rolling the track before our feature set up for some
great racing:”. He thanked his sponsor and also Hoosier Tires for
being our primary series sponsor. Junior, (yes that is his
name) would be subbing in the #26 of Bob Lesko and put the car in
the feature. Greg Weiland rented the “x” car for the night. Greg is
a modified driver and crossed the checkers in the 7th position.
The Hoosier
tires 600 modifieds will see action on June 18th at the Kutztown
speedway.
