05.25.08 | Nick Mady Scores Second Consecutive Win at New Egypt Speedway
With the start
of racing to begin, Nick Mady climbed into his seat wondering if two
in a row was possible. The track was quite different from last time
and he was hoping his set up was on the money. The track did throw a
loop as it was dry and slick. New Egypt kept the dust down to a
minimal and after hot laps the racing would really begin.
Brian “Big
Daddy” Mady and the #9 of John Lakatos would lead the field for the
first heat race of the day. Brain would end up going to the high
side and Butch Getz, driver of the 4jr, took advantage and went down
low to take the top spot. Getz would take the win followed by Mady.
Kevin Prichard,
debuting his 2k machine, and the 77x car sponsored by Moyers Grove
Campground, of Nick Mady paced the field for the second heat. Scott
Washburn, driving the #38 owned by Curt Amey, started fourth and by
lap #5 had reeled in the #08 of Steve Comer and made the pass stick.
Washburn tried to close the gap but ran out of laps giving the win
to Mady.
Rich Einsinger#65
and Doug Borger, driving the #1 Hoosier tire sponsored machine both
debuted their cars for the first time of the year. Both were fast
out of the gate and would lead the field in that order to the
checkered flag for the third heat race. After the flip of the
coin, the top three in each heat race would then get inverted
putting Ian Detweiller #18 and the 77 of Ryan Kunkle on the front
row. On the start, the field would get jumbled around. The 12e of
Eric “ King Roy” Whitbe would have to pull into the infield due to a
chain slip and send the field scrambling. Heads up driving by
everybody would have the race stay green for the next 5 circuits.
A fight for
real estate in turn #1 between the #38 of Scott Washburn and the #08
of Steve Comer would send out the first caution of the day. Eisenger
and Brian Mady would have a great battle for the fifth position as
they ran side by side for most of ten laps. Both agreed that was the
best side by side racing they did all year. Brian stated “ I could
have reached out and grabbed the inside guardrail and touch Rich’s
car with the other hand. That was some fun driving. Hopefully we can
race like that again.” Rob Vivona, former 600 micro driver, pedaled
his way thru the field from his 17th starting position to cross the
checkers in 7th place earning him the hard charger award for the
days events.
By lap #15,
Nick Mady had taken advantage of a caution and found himself in
second place looking to run down Doug Borger. The next 2 circuits
would put Mady too close to the bumper of Borger and he would have
to check up losing almost 10 cars lengths. Mady wouldn’t be rattled
and by lap #18 had gained his momentum back and passed Borger on the
inside. The yellow would fly on lap #19 and set up a great battle
with the top two and Getz looking to take the top spot from Mady. On
the single file restart Mady would get a jump and led the field into
turn one. Getz would stay right on the bumper of the #1 machine of
Borger and take second place at the line and Mady taking his second
straight win at New Egypt speedway.
After thanking
New Egypt speedway and his sponsor Moyers Grove Campground in
victory lane. He talked about how his season had turned around from
last year and hopes to inch his way to the Hoosier tire
championship.
