05.21.07 | Kindberg beats all challengers at Thunder Mountain.

The Hoosier Tires 600 Modified Series rolled into Thunder Mountain Speedway Saturday night.  Twenty-six cars signed into the pits for racing action.  Brian Mady started off the evening by winning the first heat race over a Chris Stockholm.   In the second heat race, Mike Keppler edged rookie-of-the-year contender JJ Newman for the win with a last lap, last corner pass.  Feature time and Nick Mady and Bruce Kindberg led the field to the green.  Kindberg timed the start perfectly as he out dragged Mady to the first corner.  Kyle Gardner stuck his nose in and stole second from Mady.  Gardner put heavy pressure on Kindberg trying to get under him in the corners. Kindberg stuck fast and never opened the bottom lane.  The track surface was tacky and the bottom groove was fast.  On lap 3, Gardner spun while attempting a pass on Kindberg.  This gave Nick Mady the green light to work over Kindberg.  Nick and his brother Brian Mady ran second and third both were trying to make a pass.  Laps began clicking off until contact between Nick and Brian resulted in damage to Nick's #77 relegating him pitside.  On the restart, Brian Mady tried to get past Kindberg, but Bruce kept driving the bottom groove. On lap eleven, Mady edged underneath Kindberg and looked to have the preferred lane into turn three but the pass attempt was negated by a caution.  Kindberg ran even lower and maintained the top spot.  Mady tried to use every trick in his bag, but Kindberg ran a smooth race and crossed the checkers for his first win in 600 Modified competition and his first at Thunder Mountain Speedway.  Mady followed a close second, while Keppler fought his way from deep in the pack using the outside groove to sneak third from hard-charging Curt Amey.  Amey ran a strong race and came from 14th position to snag his best finish of the year.  JJ Newman served notice to the other rookies that he's gunning for the rookie of the year title with his highest finish of the year in fifth.   Stockholm bested his finish from last week to sixth, while Chuck Miller drove a great race and scored seventh.  Ryan Higgs father, Chris jumped into the #4jr and finished one spot ahead of his son in eighth.   Dave Baldwin, Sr. rounded out the top ten.
