This would set the nights format at 3 heats and 1 b-main consi. Only 24 cars would make the feature line-up.
Kevin Gruber, #33, set the bar for the night as he lead green to checkered to take the heat #1 win. Eric Whitbe’s sponsored RRP Cycle Stuff #12 set the bar higher as he also lead green to checkered with Mike Pychinka # 55 coming in a close second. Nick Mady, driver of the 77x, and last weeks winner, would lead the field for all 8 lap. Butch Getz #4jr would take second by lap #5 followed by the 21k machine of Keith Jesberger. All three heat races went green to checkered for the second time of the 2008 season. Dillon Stein, a first year runner with the series but no stranger to racing, would battle it out with the #13 of Jon Landis and the #16 of Ryan Higgs to take the B main consi.
The flip of the coin would also flip the top 15 and put Chuck "The Thriller" Miller #3c machine and the #28 of Andy Ressler on the front row. Tyler Bartik, rookie of the year contender, qualified his #85am car in the second heat race. He started 10th and crossed the line in 5th place. Tyler than carried the momentum to the feature with his best run of the year starting 14th and again crossing the line in 5th position. His run earned him a well deserved hard charger of the race along with the top finishing rookie. This year’s rookie contenders is turning into one of the best fields this series has seen.
The first of three cautions would see pole sitter Chuck Miller end his night along with Mike Pychinka, Steve Comer, Butch Getz and the #22 Curdo Roofing sponsored ride of Joe Fanelli would see the hook ride off the track. Mike Keppler took the top spot at this point of the race. Dave Baldwin jr. garnered second with Ressler in third. The yellow would come into play on lap #6 and shuffle the running order. Nick Mady was sent back for 2 spots for a rule violation moving Eric Whitbe to 3rd and Tyler Bartik into 4th position. Mike Keppler found the preferred grove by lap #10, ran the line to take his first victory of the year. Dave Baldwin jr. , substituting for his father, would put the #15 in the second position. Nick Mady, Eric Whitbe and Tyler Bartik swapped positions several times from lap #10 thru lap # 15 to cross the line in that order. Positions 6th thru 10th were only a stones throw away from each other in the last 5 laps with Kevin Gruber, Kyle Gardner, Jeromy Guistwite, Dillon Stein and Ryan Higgs rounding out the top ten. In his victory lane interview Mike stated " I just want to thank Bob for the support I’ve had and to Grandview Speedway for the great running surface we had tonight. It’s always nice to take a win here since Grandview is my home track.
Juan Bennitiz. crew member on the modified of Ryan Godown, drove the #84 for the nights events. This was a birthday gift from his wife and was smiling ear to ear after the night was over. Rob Vivona, 600 micro driver, took the Hoosier Tire sponsored #1 machine out for the night and was impressed with the speed these cars can travel. Roy Miller rented the "x" car for the nights activities and is already putting plans in motion to own his own one day.
