04.26.08 | Nick Mady gets 2nd of the year, 1st at Grandview Speedway

The Hoosier Tire 600 modifieds rolled into Grandview Speedway on April 26th to end a double header weekend. A total of 33 cars were ready to take to the track. Rain was on the horizon so not only were 33 drivers racing against each other but also mother nature.

Eric Whitbe,#12e, sponsored by Suppression Systems Inc., took the first heat race with Nick Mady,#77x, on his bumper. Heat race #2 was credited to the #35k machine of Mike Keppler, whose hometown happens to be Bechtelsville, with the #33 of Kevin Gruber taking second. Chris Stockholm, #44, and Jon Landis #13 finished in that order for our third heat race. Butch Getz, driver of the #4jr., sponsored by Big Creek Concrete, and the #2 of Brian Mady would take the consi in that order.

Eric “front row” Whitbe and Nick Mady would lead the field into turn four and take the green. A backstretch tangle would bring out the red. Chuck” The Thriller” Miller would see his #3c Mangold excavating sponsored machine, taken off on the hook and ending his night after being an unwilling participant. Butch Getz and Brian Mady had both worked their way to the front by lap #9 after starting 17th and 18th and were 5th and 6th before a car spun in front of Mady. This sent Mady for a wild ride but was able to walk away. After looking the car over in the pits, car owner Bucky Buccafusca, had this to say “ I can’t tell you how glad I am that Doug builds these the way he does. Safety is always a first and I can let everybody know, these cars are built tough. We’ll put a new body on it and be ready for New Egypt next week.” Kevin Gruber and Eric Whitbe were battling for the third position which left Nick Mady and Mike Keppler out front and going back and forth for the top spot. They were bumper to bumper coming out of turn #4 with Nick taking the win. In his victory lane interview, he thanked his sponsor, Moyers Grove Campground and Mike Keppler for some awesome racing. This was the best the track has ever been at Grandview and can’t wait to come back on May 10th .

Hard charger for the night went to Butch Getz with a top 5 finish after starting in 17th position. Top rookie finisher of the race was the #64 of Aaron Bowes. This driver will be one to look for this season as he is running for Rookie of the year.
