04.25.08 | Ryan Higgs scores big at Big D. The Hoosier Tires 600 Modifieds traveled to Big Diamond for the first points show of the year. A record 35 cars signed in for the nights events. The first heat race saw the #G1 Kyle Gardner and the #28 of Andy Ressler battle for the top spot. Heat #2 win went to the #35k, sponsored by North Rockland Towing, of Mike Keppler cross the checkers followed by the #44 of Chris Stockholm. Dave Baldwin, #4 won the third heat race followed by the 12e of Eric Whitbe. Bruce's Speed Shop, located in Rockaway, NJ., has sponsored the 3rd heat race for the season giving the winner an extra $25.00.
After the top 15 got inverted, Eric Whitbe and the #2 machine of Brian "BIG DADDY" Mady, sponsored by Tilcon Inc., lead the field to the green flag. Unfortunately a red flag would temporarily stop the race and put Kyle Gardner into flip mode. Brian Mady and the #9 car of John Lakatos would be finished for the night. This would put George Loux, driver of the #48 on the pole but due to a severe tire rub, pulled pitside also. Ryan higgs from Nazareth, PA. would lead the pack for the restart. Mike Keppler #35k, worked his way thru the field from his 13th starting position into second and set his sights on Higgs. They would lead a great battle with Higgs taking the checkers for the first time this season. Ryan stated" I can't believe I just won Big Diamond. I've always wanted to win here", as he got a round of applause from his family and friends in victory lane. Positions 3rd thru 7th were earned by the 55 of Mike Pychinka, Eric Whitbe, Nathan Dibble #72, Mark Schaffer #61 and Nick Mady #77x. Rounding out the top ten were Dave Baldwin jr #4, Tyler Bartik #85am and Aaron Bowes, driver of the #64. Both Tyler and Aaron are rookie contenders for the 2008 season and had a great showing.
Hard charger of the race went to Tyler Bartik, who is sponsored by D&R Machining.
